What Type of Spinning Rod Do You Need
First question to ask yourself is what type of fishing will I be doing mostly? In case you think, will one rod be versatile enough for all applications the answer is defiantly NO!
Are you chunking bait, Fresh water fishing, saltwater fishing, Surf, Jetty, Bridge, Boat, and Pier? On the other hand, will you be plugging with plastics, light plugs, resins, tins, or woods?
Let us start out with bait rods. Many casual anglers and newcomers to the sport will be doing what is known as dead sticking.
You use a lawn chair, sand spike, beer cooler and radio for the ball game. If you do not have to get out there too far a 6 to 7 foot rod will work well for this type of fishing.
Are you going to be drift fishing for steelhead and salmon then an 8 to 10 foot rod will make a better choice.
If you are going to be fishing small streams for trout think about the 6 and 7 foot models again they will be easier to cast among the trees and brush. Make sure that the rod weight matches the weight of the line you intend to use also.
A general rule is big rivers big water you will want a longer rod for those longer cast. Smaller rivers and streams you will be happier with a shorter rod that is easier to maneuver.
